This new wave of edible gardening is nothing like you’ve seen before. While you might be short in space, you can make up for it with your own unique style. Whether you’re using a fire escape or a windowsill, Gayla Trail, author of You Grow Girl, offers these stylish tips to spruce up your living space: |

Mix It Up. Tuck veggies and edibles in amongst bedding plants to save space. Some edibles with gorgeous flowers and foliage to try are ‘Red Burgundy’ okra, ‘Bull’s Blood’ beets and ‘Lipstick’ strawberries.
Garden Dinner Party. Use cleaned wine bottles to grow houseplants and herb cuttings. Simply add a snipped piece of your favorite ivy, basil, mint, or fuchsia to a bottle with water. If you’re feeling crafty, try using a bottle cutting kit to remove the skinny neck and make a wide-top vase for a lush bottle garden. |
Grow Vertical. Freestanding strawberry pots are great space savers with their multiple pockets and tall size. Consider an herb-filled pot committed to your favorite dishes. Seafood lovers will appreciate a pot of lemon thyme, bay, tarragon, sage, Thai basil, and dill. Meanwhile, the sweet tooth will get mileage from a pot of lemon verbena, cinnamon basil, pansy, viola, pineapple sage, and lavender. |
